Peter McInnes a little bit of rock opera... well, its more pantomime, but anyway it reminded me of battling with my sister when I was young. (Track isn't necessarily representative of the album) Favorite track: Jack.

The Sonneberg Summerhouse 'Where'd you get the forklift truck?' 'A friend. It's gone before you're up.' 'And what will you do with all this wood?' 'I feel I'll build something. A shed.' From by the seat, he proffered up a chainsaw. Taking it, I said 'Thanks for asking before borrowing.' 'You'd have talked me out of going.' 'You'd have thanked me for that later.' He stubbornly pursued the woodgrains with his eyes. 'Have lawyers called?' I asked. 'She won't.' 'Won't rise to it?' 'I'm glad I did it,' he murmured. His half of their summerhouse lay stacked in servile ruin by him with no retort. I tried to think of something else my brother could be told. 'I'm sure it's quite a sight,' was my best. I headed in, knowing my mind would run tonight.

Rosemary I I. Genesis Rosemary could blow your mind with her laughter and a cigarette by her touch I'm sanctified and I followed her with no regret And I would have told you differently if I could only see that Rosemary's a part of me Rosemary will rescue you when you're down and indifferent her smile will remind you that loving her's your only sacrament Still I would have told you differently if I could only see that Rosemary's a part of me You'll remember all her promises not one of them sincerely said Recited like rote poetry over broken bread

Rosemary II II. Revelations Rosemary tell me it's not unusual to love you like I do. Rosemary tell me you'll never leave me and love will see us through. Rosemary, my fingers are bleeding from the love songs I play. No matter how much I hurt myself the pain won't go away. Rosemary I love you through all the demons in me. And you love me too, but the devils in you won't let you see. Please don't leave me this way Please don't leave me this way Please don't leave me this way Please don't leave me this way

Sea Stories 03:44
Sea stories "(His eyes seem warlike. But I know this look. What's happened is he's wet himself and confused the scent with that of brine. Now - you get him cleaned while I do likewise here - and allow him to trouble you with his sea stories. And if you can be seen to be somewhat awed, it shows you well to the others - and from his perspective, plays well for him to them, which he'll appreciate - or the part of him busy massaging the defeat, having him smell brine instead of urine.) Hey - my colleague here is going to go with you for a quick walk." "I smell-" "-the sea, I know. Tell him (that'll be you). I've told him about you. I'm stuck here. Let him walk with you for awhile."

How Do You Think It Feels How do you think it feels when you waste your time hearing lies and bum deals and who can you trust when the fragments of your life begins to rust It takes a long, long, long, long long time before you live again without the fear that love is pain and you don’t know if you will trust again anyone in the game The more you live, the more you lose the more you have to deal with and confuse you think someone cares for you so you can’t divide the lies from what’s true It takes a long, long, long, long long time before you live again without the fear that love is pain and you don’t know if you will trust again anyone in the game How do you think it feels when the love you gave’s betrayed nothing is real and what are you supposed to do? when suddenly there’s nothing left in plain view It takes a long, long, long, long long time before you live again without the fear that love is pain and you don’t know if you will trust again anyone in the game

The Engagement From the corner of the room, I start to panic nothing I have said has hit the mark you reply with a volley of accusations which I deflect with another blank remark the retreating facts now seem inconclusive but the evidence is very clear to me if you take more than I give, you'll leave me empty on that at least we can all agree I think I know how it feels a light heart always conceals the dark side that's slipping through and I feel a little closer to you I'm glad to say this engagement is over and it seems that you wear your feelings well someone told me you cried on their shoulder bald emotions disguised as a funeral the irony of this lazy constitution my love for you is still doing fine it survives all my efforts to subdue it and teases me at night from time to time I think I know how it feels a light heart always conceals the dark side that's slipping through and I feel a little closer to you I woke up with you standing at my window how are you - you say you're doing well and suggest that we go out for breakfast you've got some fantastic tale to tell I hear how your success is running rampant and how the fish are biting this time of year nothing strange and nothing unexpected nothing new in an old lover's ear I think I know how it feels a light heart always conceals the dark side that's slipping through and I feel a little closer to you

Jack 04:48
Jack 'Give me my jack! I want my jack back!' 'What are you talking about? I don't know about a jack.' 'Someone's took my jack and I want it back. It was outside my door and now it's gone – who's got it?' 'I haven't got your jack, you must have forgot where you put it.' 'I didn't forget anything – it was there and someone took it. It's mine and someone took it and I want it back. I need it – you find it – you get me back my jack!' 'How would I know where your jack is if I didn't take it? What do you think I'm going to do with a jack?' 'One of your friends has got it – all the time, they're traipsing through this place. One of them saw the jack against my door and they took it on their way out! – you'll phone them and you'll get it.' 'None of my friends have took your jack!' 'Give it! Get it! I want my jack – I need it back!' 'And I told you I haven't got it.' 'Your friends-!' 'They haven't got it!' 'You can't be sure!' 'Listen! – you must've misplaced it. Lost it.' 'You brought the trouble to this house You brought the trouble brought the trouble brought the trouble to this house... and I'm sick of it!' You brought the trouble to this house – I'm sick of it, sick of it You brought the trouble to this house – I'm sick of it, sick of it You brought the trouble to this house – I'm sick of it, sick of it You brought the trouble to this house – I'm sick of it, sick of it 'Oi – hey – what's going on?' 'One of his friends took my jack!' 'No – he lost it. I don't know anything about what happened to his jack.' 'You saw it.' 'When?' 'Sitting against my door – till someone walked by and took it.' 'Listen–' 'I want it back! I want it back!' 'Listen a second-' 'Someone took it!' 'I want my jack! I want my jack back! Give me my jack – I want my jack back... Give me my jack – I want my jack back... Give me my jack – I want my jack back... Give me my jack – I want my jack back... Give me my jack – I want my jack back... Give me my jack – I want my jack back... Give me my jack – I want my jack back... ...picked up my jack – one of your friends....! Look – I want it back...I want my damn jack back!!!' 'You're not listening to me!' 'I'm sick of it!' 'I'm done – you're not listening.' 'Come back you-' <bang, thump> '– no!' 'Ey!' '...my jack back-' 'Ah!' <scuffle> '...you...!' 'Heh stop this - this isn't...' 'I want it back!' <crash> 'Ah!' 'You brought the trouble to this house!' You brought the trouble brought the trouble brought the trouble to this house. 'Ah...huh! – uh...' 'I told you to stop it!' 'Let him go!' 'Then keep him back!' <stumble> 'You brought the trouble in this house!' 'Shut up!' 'Up you get...' 'My....'

Vietnam War Wound This man and his scar, they get talking one night. The man says 'you're really pretty - you know that?' The scar blushes and says 'Oh you character, you.' The man shakes his head and says 'No - no - cross my heart... You know what? - you don't do yourself justice. You know what I'm going to call you?' The scar blushes, speechless. The man goes 'I'm going to call you my Vietnam war wound.' The scar says 'But I'm not a Vietnam war wound.' The man says 'Well, anyway - it's your new name.' The scar says 'But I couldn't be a Vietnam war wound.' The man strokes the scar's face with a bit of wet tissue. He coos to it softly 'You could be anything you want to be if you put your mind to it.' The scar says nothing It's not quite sure what to say. 'Just a little bit of blusher...' the man continues, '...some definition on those lines...' He concentrates. The scar whimpers a little. '...the girls'll love you,' the man says. 'But they won't believe me,' the scar says. 'You just leave all the talking to me,' the man says. 'But I don't even know what Vietnam looks like-' 'Sshh!'...The scar does as it's told. The man pretties it up but by the time he's done, the scar is embarrassed. So embarrassed that the man has to cover it up. 'I'll call you Vivi for short. You'll look great in a few days.' A few days later Scar - or Vivi - get's to see itself in the mirror. What it sees breaks its tiny inoculated heart.

Excavation 03:31
Excavation Who'd have thought ten thousand years could pass before these very eyes would fall upon my last remains my bones, my dust, before you lies When I was laid in these foothills the night passed by like lifting fog the river's cry could give you chills migration's end my epilogue. I never saw this promised land my flesh came dust came desert sand came human kind, came tribes of war came still bones, then came more came feet, came feet, came feet, came wheel came oar, came sail, came rumbling steel and as you look towards the sun beneath this earth I'm still someone Where we're lost we will be found in time by she who understands ten thousand years before my bones were held again in gentle hands

Another Day 05:33
Another Day Another day And my jeans smell like smoke I have slept too long here and I need my friends so that we can laugh and drink and smoke it up and waste the hours Trapped by my mind/heart that cannot respond to terror nor the sweaty hand of the mourning nor the cold stare of the night And you You are so beautiful my mother said to me she saw my mourning clothes I would cry just a little bit if my soul were not so cold Another day

about

If you ever wondered why you stopped immersing yourself in music and wish you could again, this album is for you.

Ground is a collection of eleven songs that cohere, and whose themes and characteristics are felt to conjointly evoke the title.

The songs have been arranged in a sequence designed to present a dramatic and satisfying whole. They total 42 minutes and 24 seconds, which would fit neatly onto one side of a c90 tape.

Just about halfway through it feels like the right time to refill your glass.

It is the first album by The Sighs of Monsters.
